Big Brother 7: All-Stars – Let the Scheming Begin

Well, the premiere of Big Brother All-Stars aired tonight, and for me, it did not fail to disappoint. As previously reported, the 14 houseguests were revealed when CBS accidentally aired the live audio feed, so there were no surprises there (Alison, Danielle, Diane, Erika, “Chicken” George, Howie, James, Janelle, Jase, Nakomis, Kaysar, Marcellas, Mike “Boogie,” and Will). While I don’t love all of the contestants, there are enough of my favorites to make it interesting. Since these are the “all-stars,” they’ve done this before and viewed other seasons, so it seemed that people started to get right down to business. Since the show is so heavy with houseguests from season 6, there appeared to be an instant alliance there. The other houseguests were definitely feeling the heat of the season 6’ers, so there was some scheming underway to break the largest alliance up. The sweet outcome was that the two instigators trying to make waves are the first two nominated for eviction. I’m not sure if I can keep up with the rigorous three nights a week that Big Brother is on, but it is a beacon compared to the otherwise dull summer offerings.

The Food Network Has Got the Scoop!

The Food Network has teamed with Haagen-Daz to bring us a two-hour special called Scoop! The special will focus on five contestants competiting to create a new ice cream flavor.
The suggested flavors from the ten semi-finalists included such original combinations as caramelized figs and walnut, mocha malt crunch, caramelized apple crisp, strawberry mocha supreme, pumpkinlicious, cannoli, sticky toffee pudding, toasted coconut, peach amaretto praline, and chocolate chipotle. I can’t wait to see (and then taste!) the winning flavor.
Jim O’Connor of the Food Network’s The Secret Life of… will host the special, which airs July 15. The limited-edition flavor will be sold nationwide by Haagen-Daz July 16.

Dylan and Cole Sprouse, the 13-year-old twin stars of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (Disney Channel), are following in the footsteps of famous twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The Olsens, who have a billion-dollar merchandising empire, took the Sprouses under their wings last year when they created D.C. Sprouse, a boys division of their Dualstar Entertainment Group. The brand currently sells CDs, DVDs (including the Sprouse’s 2003 film Just For Kicks), and other merchandise such as clothing, calendars, ring tones, and even deodorant.
Now Dylan and Cole are creating their own magazine, called the Sprouse Bros. Code. The magazine will be marketed to “tween” boys and hits newsstands July 18.
Those of you too old to have seen the boys on Suite Life - which has been a huge hit for the Disney Channel - might recognize them from the Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy (they shared the role of Julian) or from the 1990s series Grace Under Fire. Cole also appeared on Friends as Ross’s son, Ben.

In an upcoming issue of Marie Claire, Courteney Cox Arquette discusses her insecurities and thoughts about plastic surgery. The 42-year old has felt the effect of aging in Hollywood, and would consider surgery to slow down the process. Hubby, David, is opposed to plastic surgery, so time will tell if Courteney decides to go under the knife. Says Courteney, “David has a huge problem with it, but I don’t. It’s hard getting older; it’s hard not to be the young one anymore.” The magazine interview also reveals Court’s need to return to therapy and details that the couple may have another child.

Bright and early this morning, the Emmy nominations were announced from Hollywood. There’s certainly an interesting mix this time around with the change in nomination procedures – you’ll notice no mention of Lost in the major categories and none of the leading ladies of Desperate Housewives. Here are the major categories:

Kathy Griffin on Her Divorce: Why Do We Care?

So Kathy Griffin told Larry King last night that the real reason she’s divorcing her husband is that he stole $72,000 from her.
Yawn. I actually don’t really want to blog about Kathy Griffin’s love life. I want to blog about why people blog about Kathy Griffin’s love life. Because I genuinely have no idea, though I don’t mean to knock anyone who does blog about her. I get that people care; I just have no clue why they do.
Thanks to My Life on the D-List, Griffin has recently escalated her career from just kind of being around and being annoying. Nowadays, she shows up everywhere. Her show. E!‘s red carpet coverage. As guest judge on Last Comic Standing. I think she’s funny, but not in any kind of earth-shattering way, so I have to wonder: do people really care about why her husband left her? (I didn’t even know about it until today, and I read my entertainment news.) If so, why? Is it because of her show, which I admit I have not seen? Is her show even worth watching?
Basically, I would like someone to explain the appeal of this person as a gossip-worthy celebrity (not her appeal as a comic) to me, and I would like to know if it’s a genuine appeal, or something she and her PR people have manufactured. It just seems to me that, all of a sudden, she’s famous for…not much of anything.

Christine Taylor in Another Stiller Project

Already known for her appearances in Dodgeball and Zoolander, Christine Taylor is now slated to star in yet another comedic project connected to her husband, Ben Stiller. The unnamed pilot for CBS revolves around a small-town woman who makes it big time in Hollywood. Already scheduled to produce and direct the pilot, Stiller also plans to have a recurring role as—surprise, surprise—her husband. In case you may have forgotten—Taylor has had projects not subject to nepotism, including The Brady Bunch Movie and a recent stint on My Name is Earl.

“The Office” Movie?

In what may very well be the best news of my day, the Hollywood Reporter reports that the Brit version of The Office may be a movie in the making. The BBC is hoping to move into feature films and is beginning their film venture with projects based on their TV offerings. Among those being considered are a sketch comedy show called Little Britain, as well as Extras and The Office, both Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant series.
This move to the big screen allows BBC to easily translate some well-known British staples, getting their feet wet before branching into other feature films. BBC Films has already invested in several recent comedy projects and would like to continue growing the comedy genre.
I for one can’t get enough of Ricky Gervais and his comedy genius. While I love the American version of The Office, the British version will always be a classic.

Survivor Winner is a Big Mean Puppy Killer?

The winner of Survivor: Thailand (2002), Brian Heidik, was arrested for allegedly shooting a puppy. Yes, that’s right. He shot a puppy.
Apparently, Heidik shot the dog with an arrow in his own backyard late last night, in what he claims was an attempt to protect his own dogs from a “coyote”. (By “coyote”, he of course must mean “cute little defenseless puppy”). The crime was reported by Heidik’s wife, who told police that her husband had shot a puppy and planned to shoot another one.
Heidik tried to flee the scene, but was apprehended by police and charged with battery and cruelty to animals.
The former used-car salesman and soft-core porn actor has seen his share of drama over the years. In 2002, the same year that he won the one million dollar prize on Survivor‘s fifth season, Heidik charged his wife with domestic abuse. His wife, Charmaine Heidik - also known as adult actress C.C. Costigan - was arrested for spousal battery after allegedly punching her husband in the nose.
Heidik so far has surivived the cut-throat reality series and being beat up by his porn star wife, but it will probably be hard to overcome the stigma of attempting to kill a puppy. Hopefully the wounded puppy will end up a survivor.

Cars Writer to Pen NBC Comedy

NBC just gave the go-ahead for a comedy pilot from “Cars” writer Dan Fogelman, called Lipshitz Saves the World. The project will be directed by Chris Koch, who directed other NBC faves My Name Is Earl and Scrubs.
Lipshitz focuses on 17-year-old Adam Lipshitz, who discovers that he might be destined to save the world. Fogelman compares the show as “if Keanu Reeves wasn’t good-looking and ‘The Matrix’ was not a movie but a pilot for NBC.”
Lipshitz is the first pilot NBC has ordered since announcing the fall schedule in May. According to NBC Senior Vice President Comedy Jeff Ingold, “We had been eager to work with Dan, so we jumped fast after reading this spec. It has a big comedic idea driving it, just like his feature work.”
